TRANSP v23.3

New features in this release

  • IMAS/TRANSP compatibility
    • In addition to previously added IDSs such as core_profiles, core_transport, equilibrium and others, support for new IDSs is added. These new IDSs include ec_launchers, ic_antennas, lh_antennas, pf_active, pf_passive, and sawteeth
    • EC, IC, LH, and NBI power can be initialized directly from IMAS
  • Compilation flags are enhanced to disable/enable linking of various modules in TRANSP. Using these flags, the following modules can be disabled/enabled in the TRANSP executable
    • All RF Heating and Current Drive modules
    • PT_SOLVER
    • IMAS
  • Updates in PT_SOLVER
    • Combination of multiple anomalous modules are now allowed in the axial, confinement and edge regions
    • PT_SOLVER options to treat the negative diffusivity are revisited
  • Additional information is stored in TRANSP output including:
    • Psi(R,z) and cylindrical components of B on the (R,z) grid are now written to TRANSP output for all geometry options
    • Plotting options for limiter and boundary in the trdat tool are extended
  • Cleanup/Modernization
    • NUBEAM is moved as an external module to TRANSP
    • SIGSUB is moved as an external module to TRANSP
    • FRANTIC is moved as an external module to TRANSP
    • Unused NUBEAM variables and routines are removed
    • Maximum value of r/a for transition between nclass and Spitzer resistivity was increased
This TRANSP release is synchronized with the releaze of the transp2imas tool, which is not part of the TRANSP repository. The transp2imas tool can be used to convert the TRANSP output into multiple IDSs in the IMAS format. These IDSs can be used to initialize new TRANSP runs. This way of re-running of previous TRANSP simulations can be considered as a possible path to verify the TRANSP IMAS compatibility. We invite the TRANPS users to take part in the verification of these new IMAS TRANSP capabilities. In order to take part in these verification, please send a request to transp_support@pppl.gov. Please let us also know if you want to use the PPPL cluster to save the results in the IMAS format and we will send you the instructions on how to set permissions.

The TRANSP namelist settings that set IMAS input/output are described here.
