NDEFINE=2

With this option the density profile for selected thermal ion species can be either specified in a UFILE or defined as a fraction of the electron density, by defining the namelist variable FRAC_NDEFINE2(ig).

The list of input UFILES for the density profile of the thermal ion density species is listed below:

  • PRENIH/EXTNIH - for hydrogen
  • PRENID/EXTNID - for deuterium
  • PRENIT/EXTNIT - for tritium
  • PRENI3/EXTNI3 - for He3
  • PRENI4/EXTNI4 - for He4
  • PRENI6/EXTNI6 - for Lithium

NOTE: when the ion density profiles are input to TRANSP, it is important to ensure that they are consistent with other input data, like electron density and Zeff at all times, otherwise TRANSP will return errors from the solution of quasi-neutrality.

Gasflow and recycling sources should to be provided even when thermal ion profiles are prescribed with NDEFINE=2, since they are still used in the solution of the particle balance equation.
