Release of version 23.1

The latest version of TRANSP (v23.1) will be released on January 23rd, 2023. This version contains several important changes that affect TRDAT namelists. Some highlights:

  • A new way to set the predictive simulation using PT_SOLVER through a separate namelist
  • An upgraded version of the MMM for turbulence transport calculations
  • An updated version of TGLF
  • Simplified namelist settings for EC and LH models
  • Bug fixes that have been brought to our attention by users. Thank you!

A complete list of changes and relevant documentation will be posted on the TRANSP website when the new version is released. A complete list of changes is also available on the TRANSPHub with the release of the tshare version that precedes the production version v23.1.

Upcoming changes to the code base

Starting with v23.2, TRANSP will feature an option to use input data from an IMAS database and will write outputs in an IMAS compatible format. We are working with TRANSP Responsible Officers to ensure that tools are available to users to convert databases into an IMAS database for discharges that are going to be analyzed with TRANSP. Please, note that conversion of databases to IMAS is not a responsibility of the TRANSP development team. However, we welcome volunteers to test the IMAS-compatible version of TRANSP in tshare before it gets in the production system. If you are interested in helping us test the IMAS-compatible version of TRANSP before it goes into production, please send an email to transp_support@pppl.gov or get in touch with your TRANSP responsible officer.

Version 23.2 is expected to be released at the end of March 2023.
